San Esteban and Santiago Cove are both located in Ilocos Sur and it was the last leg of our Ilocos photo safari. We were very blessed to have fellow BPC member, Atty. Yzanne Merced, accommodate us in her family’s San Esteban beach house. From Baguio City, San Esteban is reachable via bus (those going to Laoag or Vigan) or a four hour drive if you have a car. Our group had a van and we were coming from Laoag, so it took about two hours to get there (probably less when the road repairs are done).

Paraiso ni Juan
Just last September, I was able to shoot for a few minutes at Narvacan. It was my first time to shoot there and I really, really wanted to come back and shoot for a longer period of time. Fortunately, the club had an Ilocos Sur photo safari and Narvacan was one of our destinations. Weeks later, we had another trip, this time to Ilocos Norte, and Narvacan was again part of our list. The photos below are from the two instances that I was able to return to Narvacan, or as the locals call this particular place, Paraiso ni Juan.
Vigan
Vigan has always been one of my favorite places to visit. It’s a very relaxed city and I really appreciate how they’ve managed to preserve the old, Spanish colonial era, look and feel. We stayed in Vigan during the club’s Ilocos Sur Photo Safari and our hotel, El Juliana, was just a short walk away from Calle Crisologo. This was perfect since we were really close to some great spots in Vigan.
Photography and the Environment
Here’s a short article I wrote for Cordillera Today’s October 2011 Photo Ops section.
Photography and the Environment
Waffy Casem
I’ve been traveling and photographing nature/landscapes for the past five years now: from the picturesque caves of Sagada, to the white sands and colorful sunsets of Tawi-Tawi. Being able to witness the beauty of different places has given me deeper love and respect for mother nature.
We, as photographers, really appreciate taking pictures of the beauty that this world has to offer. Pristine rivers and waterfalls, colorful flowers, majestic wild animals, lush green mountains – these are just some of the subjects that we enjoy shooting. What don’t we enjoy shooting? Rivers of trash, foul-smelling coastlines and tree-less mountains, just to name a few. As photographers, we should realize that in order to keep shooting the beauty we have today, it is our obligation to preserve the environment as it is.
Bantay Church and Bell Tower
Bantay Church and Bell Tower is located just outside Vigan, Ilocos Sur. Though not part of Vigan, it is a popular destination for tourists traveling to Vigan because it is actually one of the first things you see when going there. From Vigan, one could easily reach Bantay Chuch either via tricyle or kalesa. The church is said to be one of the oldest churches in Ilocos Sur, as it was built in 1590. The belltower is definitely a must-see for anyone going there since it sits a top a hill and was used as a lookout back in the day.
Banaoang Bridge (Quirino Bridge)
Banaoang Bridge, also known as Quirino Bridge, was the first sunrise destination that we had for the recent Ilocos Sur trip with the Baguio Photographers Club. From our hotel in Vigan, we walked about 20 minutes towards the highway and waited for a mini-bus to bring us there then had a short walk to reach the base of the bridge.

Thank you Steve Jobs
I’ve been a Macintosh user since 2005.
The first laptop I purchased after college was an iBook G3.
The first desktop I acquired on my own was an iMac G3.
Thank you, Steve Jobs, for changing the world.

Narvacan
I was on a short Ilocos road trip these past few days but wasn’t able to shoot much due to typhoon Pedring. Narvacan was one of the few places that I was able to shoot, and for just only a few minutes! I really wish I could go back soon and spend more time shooting.
Here are my faves from that short period of time. (Click on a photo to view large.)

Two-Tone
I’ve been shooting in Ambuklao a lot these past weeks and I’ve even gone inside the plant itself as part of a semi-private tour. This is mainly because SN | Aboitiz is coming up with with a coffee table book and they are hosting a photo contest as one of their ways to gather images for the book. I haven’t selected any entries yet, and I probably won’t be posting those pictures until the contest is over… I hope I win! =)
This picture was taken a few days ago and I don’t think there’s anything special about it, except that I really, really love the two-tone look of the photo.
